The Union's Role

A union's role/purpose is to help any unorganized worker become an organized union member. So if you are currently not in a union and interested in learning more about what the union has to offer please read on. It is imperative for any unorganized worker to know s/he is welcome to join the local union.

We are a labor organization affiliated with t
he IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers), which represents workers in various electrical fields.  Our local, IBEW 715 in particular represents organized workers in the communications, telecommunications, and radio-television broadcasting fields. If you are an electrician working in construction and residential work contact Local 494 or Local 2150. Links to their website are on the right hand column. >>>

We are rich in diversity - we are from many cultural backgrounds and ethnic groups. By joining together, we have more of a say in our working lives. With a union we can negotiate with our employers for better wages and benefits; as well as for fair treatment, safe working conditions and a harassment-free workplace.

Rebuilding our country's unions is the single best way to correct the imbalance for power that favors corporations and the rich over working people. As long as employers can exploit unrepresented workers in other plants, offices, work sites and countries, we will be vulnerable to downsizing, concession demands and the export of our jobs. When our numbers grow, our strength increases. When we unite, we have the power we need to see to it that the needs of working people are not ignored.

Please click on "Organize Today" at our homepage to connect with an organizer and see "Join IBEW 715" for more information.
